Job Description
Helcim is searching for a Data Scientist focusing on fraud and credit risk, you’ll play a vital role in advancing Helcim’s risk analytics capabilities. You’ll bridge the realms of data science and our business to uncover insights and build solutions that enhance our understanding of underwriting, fraud detection, and ongoing risk management.
As a member of the Data & Analytics team you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and contribute to the development and deployment of data science algorithms to dive actionable insights. This is more than just modelling, it’s collaborating with people to build solutions that impact the business. Here are the things you’ll own day to day:
- Develop and implement data products (AI, predictive models, segmentation strategies, and decision-making tools) to assess and mitigate risks.
- Work with business teams to find opportunities and develop valuable solutions that solve the right problems.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to embed data products within Operations’ processes.
- Monitor model performance and conduct ongoing evaluation and iteration to improve predictive accuracy and business impact.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to champion opportunities for data and AI to scale our impact.
- Partner with the Data Platform team to ensure data capture, cleanliness, system development and monitoring meet the needs of our risk mitigation efforts.
- Contribute to our MLOps strategy and support the implementation of data governance initiatives.
A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE
- 4+ years experience in a data science-related or similar role preferred
- Education may include a bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, other related quantitative fields or bootcamps
- Experience employing statistical methods or machine learning algorithms to solve business problems
- Experience collaborating on the deployment of data products into production
- Experience with the programming languages of our analytics stack (SQL, Python) or other related languages
- Experiences with the following technologies will be assets in this role:
- Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and and their BigQuery Data Warehouse
- Metabase or other business intelligence applications
- Data transformation technologies such as dbt
- Apache Spark or similar distributed computing platforms
KEY COMPETENCIES
- Demonstrated ability to engage with cross-functional teams and non-technical stakeholders to understand project objectives, gather requirements, and communicate complex data findings
- Ability to effectively visualize and organize data through dashboards, charts, reports, etc
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment, prioritizing iterative technical solutions to solve complex problems.
- Experience in consumer or business credit and fraud modeling will be an asset in this role
